"Desire: The Carl Craig Story" is an intimate portrait of legendary techno producer, DJ and label-maker Carl Craig, and an ode to his beloved city of Detroit. Raised in a middle-class African-American family, Carl's parents encouraged his artistic ambitions, even if this meant departing from the family tradition that valued higher education.

Against the backdrop of Detroit's decline and revival, "Desire: The Carl Craig Story" traces the career of a musical pioneer whose genre-transcending techno music, drawing on a wide range of sounds, has been performed for jazz fans at the Montreux Jazz Festival and in the world's most prestigious classical concert halls, including Carnegie Hall.

Thirty-five years after the start of his musical career, Carl Craig, the figurehead of Detroit's second generation of techno artists, is now recognised by the visual arts world, with recent exhibitions at MOCA in Los Angeles and Dia Beacon in New York.

But at the height of his creative and DJing success, the musician is facing challenges that could ultimately force him to stay away from the dancefloor.
